Covent Garden’s greenest building can be yours. At every step, we’ve made choices that take the building beyond best practice, considering carbon emissions over its entire lifetime.

Refurbished not rebuilt

They say the most sustainable product is the one you already own: we’ve reused 80% of The Acre’s structure to save energy

Retaining The Acre’s structure and façade saves 4,250 tonnes of CO2 – enough gas to fill the Royal Opera House auditorium 170 times

Net zero carbon in operation

The Acre’s all-electric, green energy supply means that everyday power use here contributes no net carbon to the atmosphere

Every year, running The Acre saves 785 tonnes of C02 compared to the existing building – the same emissions as 26,000 prime rib cuts in a steak restaurant

Low-carbon construction

We’re acting today to achieve benchmarks 7 years ahead of schedule: on completion in 2023, The Acre will meet RIBA’s 2030 global average targets for low-carbon construction

‘PASSIVE’ DESIGN

The building’s form and fabric help it stay cool in summer and warm in winter to use less energy, supplemented by features like operable facades and improved insulation.

A BREATHING BUILDING

Every floor will have openable windows, supplemented by smart cooling units and air quality sensors that tell you when to ventilate your space. The building’s central atrium, The Heart, also ‘breathes’ through louvres in the ceiling.

Like a breeze? Try opening The Acre’s 900 windows for that natural airflow

EFFICIENT AND ALL-ELECTRIC

The future is fossil-free: The Acre is an all-electric building powered by renewable sources. It conserves energy through high-efficiency LED lights, heat pumps, waste heat recovery and more.

Opera house

Supported by solar

Integrated photovoltaic panels at roof level harvest the sun’s energy and save power.

The solar panels on The Acre will yield enough energy each year to make 640,000 cups of tea.

SMART BUILDING

Smart features mean the building’s energy use can be monitored, tweaked and improved, ensuring that its performance remains market-leading for years to come

RESPONSIBLE WITH WATER

By catching rainwater and installing high-efficiency fittings, The Acre uses 40% less water than it otherwise would
