At the beating heart of a city famed for its culinary excellence, vibrant Covent Garden is an area where food and culture meet in harmony. Home to one of the highest concentrations of restaurants in London, the area is almost as synonymous with gastronomy as it is with the arts.
Situated at the centre of this, The Acre is within walking distance of some of Covent Garden’s best restaurants. As the variety and number of eateries can be overwhelming, we have selected five of the best new dining experiences in the area that are perfect for a business lunch or dinner after work.
Lahpet West End – Burmese
Lahpet offers something intriguing and rare – something that even savvy London diners will have rarely experienced – the unique flavours of Myanmar. Despite its broad spectrum of culinary diversity, London boasts only a handful of restaurants offering Burmese cuisine, so Lahpet is an exciting prospect that’s well worth a visit.
Drawing influence from its neighbours China, India, and Thailand, but with a unique style of its own. The dishes at Lahpet feature combinations of at least three of the five core Burmese tastes of salty, sweet, sour, bitter and umami, as well as a variety of textures to excite the palate.
Blacklock – London Chophouse
Blacklock is a restaurant that takes things back to basics – offering a variety of chops, on or off the bone, in a tradition that has been alive in London since the 1690s.
Sustainably sourced from a small supplier in Cornwall, Blacklock operates a ‘nose to tail’ philosophy for its meat, minimising waste while keeping the price down. A relaxed atmosphere combined with an excellent wine list and selection of cocktails makes this a great place to convene with colleagues, and at around £28 per head, it offers great value for money.
Joe Allen – New York Style Brasserie
Described as the classic theatre district bar and brasserie, Joe Allen is a Broadway institution in the West End. Established in Exeter Street in 1977, the move to Burleigh Street in Covent Garden has not dimmed its convivial atmosphere or changed its character.
Joe Allen continues to cater for London’s theatre goers with a selection of New York style brasserie classics ranging from rack of oak-smoked baby back ribs with raw slaw, to Joe’s classic Caesar Salad and a not-so-secret burger.
Ave Mario – Italian Trattoria
Ave Mario offers a colourful dining experience that is perfect for lively Covent Garden.
Serving a selection of traditional antipasti, homemade pasta made daily on the premises, and a tempting array of Dolci, or sweets, this is the perfect spot for a casual business lunch.
Piazza at the Royal Opera House – Modern British
Set in the opulent surroundings of the world-famous Royal Opera House, you don’t have to have tickets to the opera or ballet to visit this stunning, refined British restaurant.
From its lofty fifth floor location, you are met with stunning views across London. The seasonal menu offers a delicious selection of modern British dishes, dreamt up by Executive Chef Richard Robinson, whose mission is to provide sustainable ingredients sourced from London’s best suppliers.
Whether you’re taking your team out to a business lunch, impressing clients or celebrating a special occasion, there are a wealth of fantastic dining options on your doorstep at The Acre.
